All we want for Christmas is ... an ambulance!

Dear Praying Family,

We made it! We’re finally in Peru. God has truly blessed us this year. You should receive our Christmas letter with a full report within a week.

I’m writing this brief letter because some news can’t wait.

We’ve been looking for a car (and a house, appliances, etc) since we arrived last Wednesday. I discovered a fascinating add in the paper for an “ambulance model”
2002 Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser Hard Top is frequently converted for ambulance use in remote areas. It has 4 wheel drive and a beautiful diesel engine. It’s not especially comfortable or pretty, but it would be a great work vehicle. We could easily carry 13 people with folding benches in the back. It also has lots of room for medical equipment and supplies for mobile clinics.

We have really been looking forward to medical ministries. Teams of Peruvian and American volunteers often go out into poor areas to give free medical care. The prenatal center makes frequent trips out of the city for conferences on abortion, STD’s, and abstinence. Transportation is usually a problem. City cars don’t always handle the terrain very well and are limited on space.

Our mission’s director for medical ministries, Dr. Jack Sorg, said this, “Mobile
medical clinics have proven to be an extremely effective tool for evangelism in Peru. Medicine opens doors in communities, homes, and hearts that may otherwise remain closed. One of the greatest challenges in this ministry is transportation. I remember arriving at a remote village where the local priest visits only once a year. A vehicle like this Land Cruiser would help us go places others can’t and won’t go.”

Help us go where the priest can’t go!

A Land Cruiser like this costs over $40,000 new. This one has about 58,000 miles on

it and is 3 years old. An organization bought several for a project in Peru and is selling them off now. It looks like we can get it for $18,000. Unfortunately we only have $10,300 for a vehicle. We will also need to install air conditioning for about $1,000 (the windows need to stay closed going into dusty and insecure areas with medical supplies). We need to raise $8,700 to get our ambulance for Christmas.

Might God use you to reach a part of this goal?
