Starting
out in Peru.
A late Christmas.
Shortly before Christmas we prepared our Christmas
letter and 2005 report. We were nearly ready to send it … when
our hard drive crashed! Two weeks and a couple of trips
to the computer repair shop later we thought everything
was fixed, but it crashed again. This time the hard drive
was totally gone, so we had to send the computer back to
the states for repair under warranty. The good news is
they recovered our data! After a busy month of traveling
in January we’re finally settling into our new house.
We bought a new desktop computer and at last we’re
able to send out that long overdue Christmas letter. Our
supporters should be receiving a copy in the mail, along
with a current prayer card. To read our report online visit
www.abweperu.org/jastone/annual_05.htm.
I should also mention that the phone number we advertised
on our prayer cards and prayer letter (570-840-0700) still
isn’t working. We’re hoping it will be up and
running soon and we’ll let you know when it is. Until
then this temporary Pennsylvania number will ring in Peru:
(570) 606-3909.
Our
first couple of months. Computer
and phone problems aside, we have had a great couple
of months. We spent 11 days on a trip to Arequipa
in southern Peru for field council meetings. It’s
a privilege to work with such a great group of missionaries! |
|
| A
few days after field council we left for our first
mobile medical clinic in northern Peru in the town
of Viru. God used generous gifts from several individuals
and churches to provide for our “ambulance.” Yes,
we were able to get the Land Cruiser! |
| What
a blessing! We used it to haul all our medical supplies
and luggage 8 hours north to Viru. During the day
we offered free medical care and at night we held
evangelistic services at several locations in the
town. Each person who came through for medical services
heard a personal presentation of the gospel. We saw
400 patients in 3 days and about 75 people made professions
of faith. Praise the Lord! |

Thank you to everyone who helped with a piece of the
puzzle!
|
A
few days after the mobile clinic we headed out of
the city again for the 5th Baptists for Life International
Conference. It’s awesome to see what God has
done in the last 7 years since the New Life Prenatal
Center began
here in Peru. There are now 4 |
| Crisis
pregnancy centers in Lima, 1 in northern Peru, 3
in Ecuador, 2 in Columbia, and a new group just starting
in Chile. The theme at the conference was "Suffering:
Prevention and Help." I translated for Jerry Thacker,
our keynote speaker, who spoke about ministering
to people with AIDS. We were all challenged to consider
how God might use us to help hurting people. |
 |
| The
trips up and down the Panamerican Highway were amazing.
It was Angela’s first time seeing nearly the
whole coast of Peru. Most of the coast is barren
desert, except where rivers bring water from the
Andes to the Pacific Ocean. |
 |
God
has opened several doors for ministry. Please pray for
God’s wisdom and direction as we continue talking
to pastors in our search for a location to plant a new
church. We are preparing for seminary classes which start
next month. Please pray for Angela as she is trying to
get her Peruvian driver’s license and the vocabulary
is quite challenging!
Thank you all so much for your prayers and support!
In Him,
Jonathan & Angela Stone
